Marble and QQ found their forever home together in Toronto!
Adopted Feb. 5, 2012
**Many thanks to Jenn Wilson Photography www.jennwilson.com for taking professional pictures of Marble!**
**Marble is very bonded with her foster brother QQ. They must be adopted together, and to help make this happen we are reducing their adoption donation!**
Marble is a 1 year old (born approx. June 2010) female tabby/calico who was found living outside by a family who could not keep her. She is living in a foster home with QQ but they are not siblings nor were they found in the same location.
From Marble's foster mom: Marble is a sweet girl who is very attached to her humans. She has become very vocal and likes to chat with you. She loves to get some loving and talks to you with delight. She gets along with the resident cat and also very well with her foster friend (QQ). She is not very fond of being jumped on by our puppy and defends her ground. She would do well with a respectful dog as she is fine with our other dog. She likes to hang around wherever you are and she loves to meet new people.
Marble is available for adoption through Grand River All-Breed Animal Rescue! If you are interested in her, please visit our website: www.grandriverallbreedrescue.ca or phone us at 519-650-9228. You can also reach us by email at GrandRiverRescue@hotmail.com |

QQ is 1 year old (born approximately mid-June, 2010) male grey tabby who came into our program through a family who found him outside but could not keep him.
From QQ's foster mom: QQ is named so because he has super big eyes and so his name kind of looks like him. QQ is a very happy, go-lucky cat and always seems to be in a good mood. A typical day for QQ consists of being picked up by kids who pretend he is a baby, being jumped on by a puppy who thinks he is a toy and then snuggling with the humans or other cats. He has become quite friendly with our puppy and would bond very well with a respectful dog. He is very protective of his foster sister Marble. QQ is small in size and still looks like a kitten but he is full grown. QQ loves to come up on his foster mom at night in bed and play in the blankets or chasing toys; after some play time he settles in for cuddles and scratches and purrs with contentment. QQ can adjust to any type of family as he loves everyone he meets.
QQ is available for adoption through Grand River All-Breed Animal Rescue! If you are interested in him, please visit our website: www.grandriverallbreedrescue.ca or phone us at 519-650-9228. You can also reach us by email at GrandRiverRescue@hotmail.com |

I found my forever home!
Adopted Feb. 3, 2012
Maddy is a fun little 9 week old (as of Nov. 25) female mixed breed puppy. These 3 sisters (Maddy, Korelye, and Romy) came to us on Nov. 19 from a rural area where they and their family were living outdoors, they likely wouldn’t have made it through the winter, perhaps not even the next few weeks of her life. Fortunately most of their family made it out and into rescue.
From Maddy's foster mom: Maddy is a cutie pie! She knows how to sit and stay, still working on toilet training. Maddy is feisty and plays really well with our 2 yr old dog... she thinks she's bigger than her. She has found a spot to settle down when we're in the basement, it's at my feet under the computer with a fleecy blanket. Maddy walks well on a leash and does her business with no issues. She is learning well from the other dogs. She is feeling more comfortable in her crate at night and some times during the day if necessary. She loves to eat, going crazy when it's meal time and being a mooch when we are eating! Maddy is going to be a great companion for her forever home.
The puppies' mom is a blue heeler mix and their dad is unknown. They may even have different dads! Our best guess is that they will reach 60 lbs as adults but it is only a guess.
Maddy is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested as part of their adoption. Please fill out an application at our website www.grandriverallbreedrescue.ca or phone us at 519-650-9228. You can also reach us by email at GrandRiverRescue@hotmail.com |

Adopted Feb. 3, 2012
**Many thanks to Jenn Wilson Photography www.jennwilson.com for taking professional pictures of Zumey!**
Zumey is a young male Yorkshire Terrier X who came to us from a rural Ontario shelter. Zumey is approximately 1.5 years old, and he weighs 3.8 kg.
From Zumey's foster mom: Zumey is a little dog with a big heart!! He is full of love and kisses. Zumey was rescued from an animal control pound, and from the minute he walked into his foster home he has made himself at home. He is not shy and loves everyone and everything he meets. He is so full of joy and love that his whole body wags when he wags his tail. Zumey lives in a foster home with other dogs, cats and a young child and he has been totally fine with all of them. He is crate trained but sleeps out of his crate all night and has no issues. He likes to sleep in a dog bed at night. He loves to be around his people and is always in where the action is. Zumey will need some basic training as he does like to run away if given the chance. Everyone who meets Zumey smiles at him and falls in love - he has a joy for life and it is contagious!! He will make a wonderful addition to a lucky family. Zumey is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested as part of their adoption. I found my forever home!
Adopted Jan, 2012
Meet handsome Higgins! Higgins came to us from a rural Ontario shelter where he was running out of time!
Higgins is approx 5 years old, weighs 14 pounds, and is a Miniature Pinscher x Chihuahua.
He loves other dogs and doesn't bother with cats at all. He's a bit of a nervous little guy, and gets startled with quick movements. A little hand shy, but he's warming up to us more each day.
At first he didn't seem to know what to do on a leash, but he's really got it now and pulls only occasionally but remembers his manners with a gentle correction or a "shhh". He gets excited when he knows its walk time.
He came to us a blank slate...didn't know any commands at all, but is picking them up pretty well. He's definitely a smart little guy. He likes going for hikes, we've had him out on a long line, and he sticks pretty close and is getting much better at coming when he's called.
He's very quiet, has hardly made a peep since he's been with us. Even when someone knocks at the door, he's alert and runs over to see who it is, but is completely quiet.
He's really good in his crate, and wanders in there on his own for a little nap from time to time. He wasn't thrilled about being left alone at first, but hardly protested at all...just a little quiet whining. He sleeps in his crate at night, and loves jumping up on the bed for cuddles in the morning.
He was a little unsure about kids, but let them pet him. In our opinion, a home with kids older than 5 ish, who understand they need to be gentle with him and give him space when he needs it would be best.
He's a good little traveler, and hops in the car without hesitation.
He doesn't mind being handled, he's fine with his feet and mouth being touched, but doesn't seem all that comfortable being held/picked up.
He's not really into toys, but does seem intrigued by the squeaky sounds.
He's an excellent eater, with no food aggression whatsoever. He will happily wait for his dinner, doesn't mind it being taken away, or hand fed, or just generally bugged while he's eating.
Higgins is housetrained.
We think he would do best in a home with another dog, and with someone who will help him overcome his nervousness and build up his confidence.
Higgins is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue.

I found my forever home!
Adopted Feb. 3, 2012
Millie is an 8 week old (as of January 7) female mixed breed puppy. Millie and her brother TJ came to us from a rural area where they were living outdoors, they likely wouldn’t have made it through the winter. Fortunately a foster home stepped forward for these pups and we were able to take them into rescue.
The father of the pups is unknown. The mother of these pups is known. Her name is Nikki and she is a 40 lb mixed breed who comes up to knee height. The puppies' foster mom sees possible malamute characteristics in TJ and lab/border collie characteristics in Millie. It's possible they have different fathers, or one just may be more like their mother and the other more like their father!
Click here to see Millie and TJ's mom.
From Millie's foster mom: Smaller than her brother and clever. She's a bit shy at first, but once she meets you at her own speed she quickly comes out of her shell. She loves playing in the snow with her brother and following the household dogs around.
Millie is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested as part of their adoption. Adopted Feb. 7, 2012
Nicco is an 8 week old (as of January 11) male yellow lab mix puppy. Nicco and his siblings (Lilla, Duke and Chance) came to us from a rural area where they were living outdoors, they likely wouldn’t have made it through the winter. Fortunately 2 wonderful homes stepped forward for these pups and we were able to take them into rescue.
From Nicco's foster: Sweet little Nicco. He was the runt of the four from this litter rescued. He too can be a busy puppy, but really loves to watch the world go by, preferably on your lap. He loves to be cuddled and held. Nicco isn't very comfortable at first on his back, but then relaxes if you rub his tummy. He is calmer than his sister, Lilla, and LOVES his food! Nicco enjoys watching what my adult dogs do and carefully follows them at a distance.
Nicco is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested as part of their adoption. I found my forever home in Toronto!
Adopted Jan, 2012
Heidi is a very sweet girl. She is a lab/possibly wolfhound or bouvier mix about 2 years old, approx. 45 pounds. She came to us from a rural Ontario shelter where she was running out of time.
She is really good around the house, no accidents and hasn't been destructive at all. When she came here she found the dogs toys and beds right away and made herself at home. She's good with our son Ryan (somewhat jumpy, but he knows to ignore her when she does it), he pets her, rubs her belly, gives her a gentle hug and a kiss before bed.
She is very vocal when playing (barks) with other dogs. She is very friendly with dogs but can overwhelm them. She absolutely loves to be around her people, more than around the dogs.
She sits at our feet, even if her bed is across the room, just to be closer. She cuddles up in our bed and gives kisses, even lies on us to be close. She knows sit, down and will shake a paw.
She responds to anything and comes back whenever she is called. She needs to be watched around the front door because she will try to escape. I think it is because she just wants to be with her people.
She can be left loose in the home when we are at work. She walks well on a halti on leash. As a typical lab she gets very excited to see people so she jumps up but this is easy to correct and we are working on it. As any lab she can be energetic and requires a home with a fenced yard to play ball and people who will walk her daily. As with any dog she would benefit from continued training since she is still young and has some puppy in her still.
Heidi is available for adoption through Grand River All Breed rescue.
